The Rotary Club of Smiths Falls Invites You to Revisit the Canada-Soviet Hockey Series with Gary J. Smith

Gary J. Smith was a young diplomat at the Canadian Embassy in Moscow during the Cold War. He was instrumental in making the 1972 Canada-Soviet Summit Series happen and keeping it from falling apart.

He has an Honours BA in Political Science from York University and was a Fellow at Harvard University's Center for International Affairs.

He has a number of publications to his credit “Ice War Diplomat: Hockey Meets Cold War Politics at the 1972 Summit Series” (2022 Douglas and McIntyre) which was the basis for the feature length documentary film “Ice-Breaker: The Summit Series”.
